Our friends of over 30 years, Neil and Linda Hurrell invited us over to see the bungalow they have renovated in Ixworth. The plan was to see the house and go out on a bike ride with Linda on her new electric bike:) We loaded the bikes into van and arrived at 10.15 after ringing for last minute directions from Neil. it is a lovely bungalow in a quiet cul-de-sac which they have spent a lot of time doing up and it is nearly complete apart from a little work on the extension. We had a catch-up cuppa and scone in the sunny garden before heading off on the beautiful narrow Suffolk lanes visiting several villages around Ixworth. Linda was whizzing on her electric bike with Mag alongside peddling hard to keep up. Luckily the lanes were fairly flat and the scenery stunning. Neil and I peddled behind having a good chat. We passed Stowlangtoft, Hunston, Little Norton Green, Norton before stopping off at their son’s new house at Tostock as Neil needed to pick up a drill bit. We sat in the lovely big tree filled back garden and Neil produced a drink and bananas to keep us going. We then lost a little lost on the way to Thurston. We continued past a windmill at Pakenham to a nice watermill with goats in the field. Then Mag and Linda headed back while Neil and I made a short detour to the windmill before heading back across a track past fields full of stunning yellow rape and over a stream. We got back to meet the girls and have a well-deserved cuppa while Neil lit the gas bar-b-que. We were soon eating delicious huge burgers, sausages and bacon including potatoes, carrots and peas:) We were soon joined by two of their Grandchildren, Hannah and Will. We had a great afternoon in the garden chatting watching Neil and Will mend a puncture on a nearly new bike Will had picked up free on his travels! Getting chilly in the garden we didn’t leave until gone six after a really enjoyable day:)
